Are you ready?

Fri/Jun/2022 By Jeppe

Are you completely ready? Is the boat ready? When are you leaving?

Skipper i agterrummet
Skipper is hiding in the stern locker.

These are questions we get quite often and also ask ourselves. Especially now that there is only one month to go.

YES – we are ready to put working life behind us for a while and look forward to our new life.
BUT – there are many things that need to be fixed and brought to order and others things that can wait until we leave.

YES – the boat is ready and can easily sail the high seas.
BUT – there are many things we have bought that need to be installed and we are vigorously working at it.

WE DEPART – almost on time – Goodbyes are said on Sunday 3 July from kl. 9:53, where family and friends can stop by Rhumb Runner and say goodbye.
HOWEVER – We do not cast the lines before Monday morning when the crew is fresh and the weather is appropriate. We prefer to leave at our own pace at the right time.

New installations, updates and repairs
– Oh No .. Okay we are probably ready

There have been a lot of ongoing projects during the last few years. Below you see photos with some descriptive text.

Rollator
Rollator
Rhumb Runner now has roll with 70m anchor line. Thus, the bilge bedouins on board can easily cast a stern anchor..
Yellow flash
Yellow flash for deterring suspicious whales, catfish, fishermen, robbers, crazy dogs and pirates, as well as other sea-bedouins.
Redningsflåde og tracker
New life raft and YB3i gps and Iridium satellite tracker.
– Hopefully you can see where Rhumb Runner is when we are far out of reach 🙂
Fog horn and hailer
A new fog horn and megaphone/hailer has been installed on the mizzenmast. Thus, one can toot the fog horn and shout at the social democrats and crew.
Alfa Tube 2HP - wifi booster
New wifi antenna that can capture and boost the signal from land.
Fan i vinduet
New fan installed so the aft cabin for etter ventilation. It can be tilted down and out of the way under the window.
Ny sprayhood
Now a new canvas spray hood has been sewn to cover the cockpit against water, sun and wind. The Sailrite sewing machine, which is on the table in the background, will be on board.
Ny Epirb
A new Epirb has been purchased. It can send emergency signals via satellite. – It costs more to change the battery in the old one than to buy a new one. – The battery life had expired on the old one – But it still works.
Bauer Junior II dive compressor
The diving compressor has been serviced and can be used safely again. – Then the dive tankes can be filled and you can become bodies with other air-hungry sea turtles.
oil cooler change
Gear box oil cooler has been replaced. The “stainless” oil cooler is very prone to corrosion. The oil is cooled by salt water running through small pipes in the oil cooler.
malet kæde
The anchor chain is spray painted with red every 10m.
Propeller bearing checked
A propeller bearing was disassembled and cleaned so that it now rotates easily again. – special tools and a lot of power were needed.
Propeller painting
The propeller has been checked and painted during the Christmas holidays. First cleaned clean, checked, then painted white, yellow and black according to Hempel’s regulations. – We’ll see if it works?
Skruen er monteret
Jönsson League at work. Bottom painted while the boat is on the hard. The propeller is reinstalled – now with a zinc anode – We will see how it works.
Bunden males
JThe Jönsson League is at work. The bottom must be maintained and painted.
Damaged bearing
Here the bow thruster is emptied of oil & water and it’s clear that the propeller hits the shaft.
Bow thruster bearing replacement
Replacement of one of the bow thruster bearings. Now the propeller no longer bumps into the shaft.
Bow thruster
Last fall, the bow thruster failed and we could only hear the electric motor spinning. The bow thruster taken out, the gear removed and disassembled to find out that two safety pins were broken.
Bow thruster gear
The bow thruster gear disassembled and the two broken safety mandrels were identified. The two safety pins were broken due to fatigue.
Dripping bow thruster
Incompetent skipper has repaired the bow thruster and replaced the broken safety pins. But now the bow thruster is dripping oil – because the stupid ape/skipper has damaged the o-ring when he assembled the gear.
skvat pissere og dovne socialdemokrater
There is always something that brakes and needs to be repaired or replaced.
The bilge beduins/crew or the skipper’s wife always get the blame 🙂
Steering wheel to be painted
The paint on the aluminum steering wheel peeled off and to avoid further corrosion it had to be painted.
Steering wheel painted
The steering wheel has been painted and a new heel angle gauge has been refitted.
Garmin instruments
New NMEA2000 instruments and new autopilot computer installed.
New VHF
VHF radio has been replaced and can now be used with an electric horn and hailer/megaphone.
Front locker bottom painted
The front starboard locker painted to secure against rot in the plywood bottom.
PVC cover under production
PVC cover / sprayhood during production at home in the living room.
PVC Cover being melted together
Here, the PVC runs are melted on after the zippers have been sewn on. The heat gun is seen in the background.

Windlass repair and new chain counter
The manual part of the anchor winch was repaired and the chain counter was replaced (red arrow)

Yanmar starter motor replaced after the skipper’s wife had to stick her finger in her nose and the skipper hit all the engine’s magnetic contacts with a small hammer to make the engine start off Rødvig harbor.
New CO2 fire extinguisher
New large fire extinguisher for extinguishing engine fire. It blows directly into the engine compartment.
Old sea-cock
The old sea valve/seacock was difficult to unscrew from the hull penetration, but we succeeded.
New front seacock N
Seacock for the front toilet has been replaced.
ACMO rigging
All the standing wire rigging replaced by new standard wire and rigging screws from ACMO in France.
Here you see the big box that came on a European pallet
Leroy Somers gear
The old Leroy Somers gear for the boom tail before replacement.
main boom gear dismantling
The gear unit for the mainsail’s boom outhall was dismantled and replaced, together with the winding gear for the in mast furling.
fridge removed
Here the freezer has been removed so that the water tank can be accessed.
Water tank access
Here is the access hatch to the water tank. under the freezer, which is located under part of the u-sofa.
watertank
The water tank under the freezer under the sofa. It looks nice.
Fridge compressor change
Refrigerator compressor, and internal refrigerator parts during replacement.
old compressor
The old Danfoss compressor.
Onan exhaust temperature transducer
The onan generator exhaust temperature transducer has been replaced due to a defect

Exhaust elbow to be checked
The exhaust elbow where cooling water and exhaust are collected has been checked and a rusting threaded rod and nut have been replaced. Otherwise no corrosion found. There is a new one in the reserve stock.

New interphase sonar transducer
Interphase sonar replaced with one that looks forward in the vertical plane, or forward in the horizontal plane.
Sanding the bottom
Sanding the entire bottom – Crew and the Jönsson league must work. Spring 2019.
Finished sanding
Joy when we finally finish sanding whole bottom. – Spring 2019.
Heating canon
Heat canon is needed when you want to paint with epoxy in the cold weather. – Spring 2019.
Two epoxy layers with fairing
The entire bottom gets two layers of epoxy with epoxy fairing between the layers. Spring 2019.
Epoxy painting

Main mast ready for mounting
Then the mainmast is ready with new wire and screws from ACMO. The mast probably weighs around 350kg, so happy helpers are needed. Spring 2019.
Main mast mounting
Then the mainmast must be lifted and mounted. Hopefully it must not taken off again … Spring 2019,
Triadic stay
The triad stay between the mast tops must be mounted, so the skipper must climb the mast. (Spring 19)
